It was meant respectfully, but i believe it's considered to be a pseudo-scientific word and also somewhat offensive.

I'm glad there are other people out who agree with me about this, though I realise we're in a minority. I'm not generally that concerned with political-correctness, but I find it slightly galling that at a time when footballers are (rightly) getting into a lot of trouble for racial abuse that an Irish rugby international can bandy a word like that around in a national newspaper and no-one bats an eyelid, even if there was no malice or offence intended.Andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06170574944537866579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2337056659803732067.post-50735063651187244092012-01-08T11:43:55.215+00:002012-01-08T11:43:55.215+00:00My Ma used to always call travellers itinerants. Disservice to both scumbags and knackers to some degree.

I loathe that it's become the norm to call a certain class of person a scumbag/knacker, regardless of their malice or lack of. But that's a different story. One I've bleated about on several occasion and am always in the extreme minority.John Brainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10360573211863125987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2337056659803732067.post-76343418941833964042012-01-04T12:07:53.972+00:002012-01-04T12:07:53.972+00:00It says a lot about my lack of observational skill...It says a lot about my lack of observational skills that I only noticed it yesterday.Radgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08120550799595771510noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2337056659803732067.post-61923126818096256282012-01-03T21:28:59.657+00:002012-01-03T21:28:59.657+00:00Radge - It's kind of an underground thing, yo....Radge - It's kind of an underground thing, yo.
